A Free Public Transport Pilot Project has been launched by the Department of Health together with the civil society partners.
This project is aimed at assisting people 50 years and above to go to vaccination sites in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.
The minister of health, Dr Joe Phaahla, said the government is working with different sectors to increase the access of vaccines to the elderly.
The project started today and will continue until 04 September 2021.
“This will help the elderly that live in areas that are not easy to access the Covid-19 and will help elderly people with high-risk diseases. The department of health is planning to vaccinate around 25 000 people during this period.
These transports will be going to mass vaccination sites in these provinces. The arrangement of transports are as follows, in Gauteng, it is in Tshwane Mooiplaas Settlement, Olivenhoutbosch Plaza, Olivenhoutbosch Sportsground Doringkloof, Centurion, Johannesburg in Ivory Park, and Thembisa Gallagher Estate, Alexandra and Sandton.
