Residents of Saulsville hostel and street vendors have been affected badly by a burst sewage pipe at Mthimkhulu Road near an abandoned municipality building.
One of the residents, Mr Shaun Makhubela, said the leakage has been going on for about a month.
“This pipe has been giving us problems for about five weeks,” says Mr Makhubela.
He said contractors have come to fix the pipe regularly, but the repair keeps on breaking and the pipe burst open with sewage gushing out unto the street with a bad smell.
Another hostel resident, Ms Nomsa Hlatswayo, said the sewage is causing damage near their houses and is posing risk of making the children sick.
“I wish the metro can act fast and render the service we are supposed to receive becase the water is now attracting mosquitos.
