Lotus Gardens Clinic was temporarily closed down on Tuesday afternoon when one of the staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
Patients who had come to seek medical help were turned away and a notice was displayed to avoid the spread of the virus. A parent who was there when they were turned away said she was there for her child’s monthly check-ups and had to turn back home.
Culman Monareng, who is a diabetic patient, said he is badly affected by this as he was there to collect his medication. “On the day, it was my appointment date, I was turned to another clinic while I queued there since the early hours of the morning”.
Administrator, Ms Lebogang Mahaye, said counseling and support will be provided to the affected staff members.
“The City would intensify efforts to ensure that we contain the spread of the virus not only at the workplace but within the entire city,” Mahaye said.
Gauteng health MEC, Mr Bandile Masuku, said the province is under a lot of pressure and more beds are needed with more graves being dug.
Cases of the virus continue to be on the rise as Pretoria is one of the hotspot places, the public is advised to protect itself and others by staying at home and washing their hands to contain the spread of the virus.
