The MMC for Social Development and Community Services, Cllr Peggy de Bruin attended and showed her support for the Inter-High School Athletics event hosted by Prestige College at the newly refurbished Pilditch Stadium last week.

Ms. de Bruin said she was pleased to note that this athletics event turned out to be a great success with many high school athletes competing for gold.

“The City is pleased that this event was held at our newly refurbished Pilditch Stadium. The City invested over R30 million to upgrade the stadium to international athletics standards, as certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF),” she said.

Ms de Bruin said that upgrades include new synthetic athletics and training tracks, a new irrigation system on the inner field and embankments, upgrades of the long jump pits, and many other items.

“It is critically important that the City invests in our sporting facilities as they provide opportunities for young people to develop their sporting skills,” she said.
