The Rotary Club of Pretoria West on Saturday, 27 August 022, in partnership with the Pretoria Premier Hotel continued a reading improvement program called SOUNS to teach learners to read effectively.
The event was held at Shalom Christian College that serves 350 learners from Grades 1 to 7, in Silverton.
The event was s a continuation of a program that has been ongoing since 2011. In July 2022, the Rotary Club of Pretoria West (RCPW) hosted 50 learners for the programme. The Club hosted the same number on Saturday, 27 August 2022.
Matsepo Africa, RCPW Club President, said RCPW forms part of the larger Rotary International global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, and in their communities.
She said in an effort to serve others, through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders, RCPW partnered with the Rotary Club of Pretoria East and the Premier Hotel to introduce SOUNS in support of education and literacy. One of the beneficiaries of SOUNS is Shalom Christian School based in Silverton, Pretoria.
“The support for our education and literacy at our school by RCPW has led to immense improvement in the reading abilities of our learners. This has led to greater comprehension of their subjects since the programme was initiated at our school” says Deliwe Jele, the Principal at Shalom Christian College.
