Minister for Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, said the application for the R350 social relief grants will open on Friday, 06 August 2021.

Speaking at a press briefing in Pretoria today, she said all applications will be done digitally on https://srd.sassa.gov.za, WhatsApp on 082 046 8553 or USSD Line *134*7737#.

Applicants are advised to use one of the platforms and not all of them at once as it will confuse the system.

“The first payment is expected on the last week of August 2021 and will last until 31st March 2022” says Minister Zulu.

She also said the applicants should note that the bank account or cell number used to apply must be registered in the name of the approved applicant and applicants should provide information of a bank account that will be paid in to avoid long queues at post offices.

Minister Zulu said qualifying people are age 18 and above and below the age of 60 residing in South Africa. Also, qualifying is registered refugees at The Department of Home Affairs from Angola, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe including asylum seekers with visas from the 15 March 2020.

The grants cover unemployed people not receiving any social grants, not residents in a government-funded house, and should not be receiving a stipend from National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) or financial aid or an unemployment insurance benefit.

“A total of 571 724 grants which were approved remain uncollected from the post office and I urge all applicants who have not received or claimed their grants to urgently contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11, as they will only have until 31 August 2021 to make inquiries in respect of the previous grants from May 2020 to April 2021,” said Minister Zulu.
