The SA Post Office (Sapo) has stated that it will remain open for longer durations to accommodate recipients of the Covid-19 R350 social relief of distress grant from the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa).
Branches will be open on weekdays and Saturday mornings during the festive season.
Sapo spokesperson, Mr Johan Kruger, said branches will however be closed on Sundays and public holidays and only a few post offices in shopping malls will be open.
He said, “Post offices throughout the country play a central role in the payment of Sassa social relief of distress grants to citizens who are the hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated economic downturn”.
Only after receiving an SMS telling them that the award is available, beneficiaries must go to a post office. If a beneficiary’s smartphone was only used to apply for one award, the grant can be picked up at any Pick n Pay or Boxer supermarket.
Grants can be accessed for the numbers 080 and 085 on 22 December; 081 and 086 on 23 December; 082 and 087 on 28 December; 083 and 088 on 29 December; and 084 and 089 on 30 December.
