More than 40 taxis have been impounded in Atteridgeville for not complying with the COVID 19 lockdown.

Taxis continue to work as usual in Atteridgeville and load more than 70% despite being restricted not to load more than 70% by the minister of transport Mr Fikile Mbalula.

In the results of not following the protocols of the, Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC, Mr Jacob Mamabolo, confirmed that more than 40 vehicles have been impounded.

“We are with our law enforcement agencies and we are enforcing the Covid-19 regulations.

“Since we started in the morning and over those transgressing the 70% loading protocol, others are operating without permits,” he explained.

“The impounded vehicles will be released with a R3 500 fine. This should send a message to those who are still thinking of transgressing the law.

He said the police are out in full force and warned the taxi industry and private vehicle owners that the full might of the law will be applied to law breakers during the lockdown.
